Nature Bonds Project Toolkit
This toolkit provides interested stakeholders, primarily from the Ministries of Environment and Finance or their equivalents, with a high level and comprehensive overview of Nature Bonds projects, focusing exclusively on commercial debt conversions. It provides information on the steps before and after the transaction close, describes expectations of the parties regarding processes and documents, and the rationale and best practices needed for a successful outcome. Nature bonds are characterized by robust, legally binding commitments tied to a debt conversion transaction to support national governments in protecting nature, addressing climate change and preserving a land, ocean and freshwater ecosystems.
The toolkit will also benefit governments, advisors, credit enhancers, NGOs, communities and other key parties, such as other government ministries, public agencies, banks and Development Finance Institutions who want to better understand the impact and processes of Nature Bonds projects. The toolkit is available in English, Spanish French and Portuguese.
In addition, The Nature Conservancy has made available voluntary practice standards for developing, implementing and reporting on high-quality debt conversion projects for nature, resilience and people. The practice standards are available in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese and can be found here.
